CHANGE

Quito - 18 of November 2021

By: Camila Andrade

I´m from a small town on the outskirts of Loja, this place is called Taquil, it is very nice and quiet apart from the people are very quality and field work is the daily bread for all farmers but we know that the love we devote to our daily work living with agricultural production is not much compared to the companies that come looking to produce the raw material for their products.

My parents are textile engineers, my mother studied psychology and textile engineering and my father is a textile engineer with a master's degree in hospital textiles. My mom is from my hometown Taquil and Medellin and my dad is from a part of the Guayas that I do not remember well but they always decided that they wanted to study and get ahead which was the cause of us moving to the big city but not as my brothers and I believed.

I honestly did not know how to feel when I heard this news and I really thought that I was going to stay in Loja with my family and friends with whom I have shared all my life and apparently that was going to change soon because we were going to the capital which is Quito because there were good job opportunities, security and we were going to have all the possible comforts. In truth it sounded good but I was missing this year to finish my school, to be for the last time with my friends, my grandparents who saw me grow up and raised me and how to forget the good grind with coffee every day besides that I was going to miss my grandmother's arepas (she is Colombian).

The process of moving was a little complicated emotionally because sometimes they wanted to back out of their decision, my brothers were happy because they hated being in the village and emotionally I felt terrible and I was afraid to take this big step but what motivated me was that I could have better opportunities for study, life, security, etc. We had some problems with the clothes, machines and washing machine because they did not arrive at the new house until after 4 days and for 1 month we were fed with fast food and it was not good.

Currently I live north of Quito by the Carolina park and I like it a lot, people are a little colder and less friendly but the food is super delicious, 3 months ago I started my school year in a new school and the people are super cool I really like this place and my family is stable and we help each other as much as we can. we want to return to visit my village in a few months to see how everything is going.

My parents are doing great in their own business and they are working out.

It is not so bad to make changes in your life and losing fear is what makes us strong.
